I moved to Spearman and began working for the Spearman Police
Department when my daughter Natalie was to begin school because we felt she
would get a better education in Spearman.
She has since graduated, and I have
come to love this community and the people. My wife Michelle began working for
EMS soon after arriving here but due to health reasons she had to stop about 2
years ago. Having no family here, I have always strived to provide fair, impartial,
and non- biased services to this community.
I have worked hard to provide the best law enforcement services to the
citizens of Hansford County. I have worked closely with Pringle Morse ISD,
Spearman ISD, and Gruver ISD in keeping the students safe. I was able to work
with our Commissioner’s Court and Gruver ISD in allowing me a School
Resource Deputy position.
Employee retention and recruitment are my primary goals. It is difficult to
find anyone who wants to work in law enforcement in this uncertain world we live
in now and to find someone who is worthy of the position entrusted to them. I
worked with our Commissioner’s Court to approve sponsoring one of our jailers
to the Law Enforcement Academy and upon graduation he will begin his career
as a patrol deputy for us. It is my hope that we can continue to do this to provide
opportunities for people who want to become peace officers but are not already
I intend to use the Senate Bill 22 grant monies to improve salaries and
will continue to fight to get more people on patrol so that we can do away with
being on-call and have 24/7 coverage for the county. I would appreciate your
vote in helping me attain our goals together.
Hansford County Sheriff
I am running for the Hansford County Sheriff position in the 2024 election. I would like to share my position on some of the major issues and my policing qualifications with you.
I was raised in Hansford County. I have a large extensive family here. The values of this county were ingrained in me since childhood. The people and the places are all dear to me. I care for these people. They have been my friends all of my life.
Above all things, I have been a Christian since my early years in our county seat, Spearman.
When I graduated from Spearman High School, I joined the Air Force as a military police officer. I worked during that time as a weapons training officer among normal military police activities. I left the Air Force after the Gulf War ended.
I moved to the Amarillo Police Department for 3 1/2 years, then to the Austin Police Department for 22 years. When I was in Austin, I received extensive training in community support, search and rescue, home and personal security, highway enforcement, and mob control.
I worked extensively with gangs and police safety. I was on the active shooter response team. In 2016, I retired from Austin Police Department with a honorable discharge. I received the Meritorious Career Award for never having been complained about in my entire career. Among all the rewards I received, this was the one I am most proud to have.
My wife and I moved back to Hansford County soon after my retirement and I began working for the Hansford County Sheriff Department. I soon realized I had a lot of training and experience that no one else had. When disasters struck across our country, I felt it was imperative that I do everything I could to keep Hansford County safe.
It became a personal mission to me to protect our schools. I have a heart for these kids. I want to do everything I can for them. I have spent many of my days off patrolling school zones and attending school events. Anyone who knows me, knows I will never be the one to walk away from any school safety situation.
I am eager to change some of the current policies.
Besides a more prominent role in school safety enforcement, I would like to see more policing of drugs and a closer eye on weather alerts. I want to be upfront and center on law enforcement. I want to get out among the people. It's only with a close relationship with the citizens that you know who are the good guys and who might need some direction.
I have received the Deputy of the Year Award every year it was designated since I started working at Hansford County.
I have 36 years experience in the police fields. It was time served in some of the best training the military police and our state capitol offers. I hope I can use that knowledge to make a difference in Hansford County.
Hansford County residents, my name is Cindy Lopez, and I am asking for your vote in the upcoming election.
I have been a Hansford County resident since 1997. Oswaldo and I have been married for 23 years, and together have had the privilege of raising our three children in this amazing county we call home. I am a proud Lynx, Greyhound and Cougar mom. Currently, I serve as Vice President of Cougar Pride, and I am a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
I have been employed with Hansford County for the past ten years. My experience includes working alongside the County and District Clerk’s Office and Tax Office. In February 2023, I was appointed as County Treasurer. I want to continue serving my county as your Treasurer. Since taking this position, I have proven that I am more than capable of handling the duties and responsibilities of County Treasurer. In this time, I have attended several trainings which include County Investments Academy and 51st County Treasurer’s Seminar. I have worked hard all my life, and I will continue working, growing and learning if you allow me to do so as the County Treasurer. My goal is to continue serving the residents of Hansford County to the fullest, so please allow me to demonstrate my dedication and determination to you all.
I would respectfully and humbly ask for your vote in the March 5, 2024, Election.
